In the Stillness (#81)

As you may know, I just love conveying an atmosphere, experience or feeling through words and images, so that I can share it with you.

Today I translated the magnificent stillness that I witnessed outdoors this morning through a poem.

In the Stillness

In the stillness I stand transfixed

As raindrops smoothly fall to the ground.

Hypnotized by their gentle screen,

I look beyond to another scene.

And as I watch, the drops do shift

First to translucent, and then to white.

Streams of snowflakes rushing past

And sweeping me up in a swirling blast.

From there the colors turn to blue

From snow to ice, and I see right through

How the magic of my present state

Brings me beyond, can you relate?

In the stillness I can see

How nature comes alive in me.

When I wrote this, an alternate final line came to me as well. Which do you prefer, the one I wrote above or ‘I’m so alive, can this be me’?

I’d love to hear from you!

  1. Awesome. You have a real gift

  2. “I’m so alive, can this be me?” resonates with a bit more power – that’s my opinion at this moment anyway. Lovely imagery! well done Maura. Thank you for sharing your gifts with the world!

  3. In stillness we become alive and so I love the line “I’m so alive, can this be me?”
A beautiful; in the moment , one with nature depiction!!
