Dark Feelings (#76)

You’re a good person, and you’ve tried really hard. You know, you’ve done all of the ‘right’ things to feel fulfilled. But suppose you’ve recently experienced a ton of crapola and you’ve just had enough of it.

You feel down, you feel dark.

Let me set the stage…

You’ve had a hard day at work. You arrived late at the office because of traffic, walked in late to a meeting to receive cold glares, and worked through your lunch-hour feeling like you had to make up for your misdemeanors. When you arrive home at night, your best friend calls to say they’re moving…to another country. You check your messages to find that your bank account is overdrawn. You ask your partner to help you with some housework and notice they’re sleeping in their chair.

You’ve had enough; your feelings start to well up….you’re beside yourself.

Is the universe punishing me you wonder? I just want these dark feelings to go away.

But then…you remember some spiritual principles that you learned by reading these blog posts, or that you may have learned from another teacher.

Read further to review some of these core principles, and prepare yourself for an exciting new series I’ll be sending you to deal with the ‘dark’ emotions. No more masking, pretending, or playing around. We’ll be going deep in this series with no sugar-coating, so let’s get ready for this.

Our human tendency is to avoid, bury, or mask the darkness. I’ve noticed that many people who work in the field of personal development also encourage this…they try to make the darkness go away in an attempt to only focus on the light. When I started out, I did this too. The idea of just experiencing happy thoughts is quite seductive, isn’t it?

But the dark energies, like the rest of you, don’t like being ignored. They don’t like being suppressed. But they do want to lighten up; that’s the good news!

So, rather than becoming these great light beings by triumphing over evil, we are to learn to experience and embrace the lower vibrations which in turn raises us to lighter states. It doesn’t mean hanging out indefinitely in a dark state; it involves knowing what to do when one appears.

So let’s review some principles that can point the way when your dark feelings are welling up:

  • You’re here to experience life through your senses…and that includes light and dark vibrations.
  • Making the dark emotions ‘bad’ or ‘wrong’ means you’re judging them, judging a part of you. And nothing likes to be judged.
  • Judgment brings more struggle.
  • The natural evolution of energy is to transform into higher states (that’s why they say in the end, everything is light or love).
  • The quality of your focus on a situation (expansive or contractive) may affect that thing. First you need to meet it where it’s at, then you may shift it. Yet the shift is never really outside of you; it’s an internal shift in your consciousness that you may see reflected outside. (Ok I know this may be tricky to fully grasp.)
  • Transformation occurs when there are no strings attached (no manipulation) and when in alignment with the universal ‘plan’.
  • God/ the Energy Matrix/ Source has never been an external power outside of you; you draw on this energy from within.

That’s really cool Maura yet how do I apply these principles when I’m afraid my dark emotions are taking over?

Well, there is an art to it. Remember, first you need to meet the energy where it’s at, then you may shift it. And I want to help you do this.

So…I’m excited to gift you with a series of articles I wrote, called The Darkness Within Series. Beginning very soon, I’ll be sending you an article each day for over a week to help you meet some of the lower vibes you may be experiencing, and start to work through them at your own pace. Since you’re already on my list, there’s nothing for you to do. Cool?

This series was inspired by my article called The Dark Place Within, which you may like to revisit in the meantime.
